What is a cataract?
A cataract is the clouding of your eye's natural lens, causing blurry, dim, or foggy vision that worsens over time. In Hindi it is known as motiyabind (मोतियाबिंद). It is the most common cause of treatable blindness in India, especially after age 50 — and surgery is the only cure.
Most cataract blindness is completely curable. The only real barrier is access — and that's exactly what we remove.
Our surgical techniques
Phacoemulsification (Phaco) — blade-free & stitch-free
Ultrasound energy gently breaks the cataract through a tiny 2–3 mm incision. No blade, no stitches, and faster healing — most patients see clearly within a day or two.
SICS (Small Incision Cataract Surgery)
A slightly larger self-sealing incision, ideal for very mature ("advanced") cataracts. Safe, fast, and highly effective — the technique trusted in high-volume eye care across India.

Signs you may need cataract surgery
Cataract develops slowly, so many patients in Prayagraj and surrounding villages live with worsening vision for years before seeking help. See an eye specialist if you notice:
- Blurred, cloudy or foggy vision that keeps getting worse
- Difficulty seeing at night or while driving
- Glare and halos around lights
- Colours appearing faded or yellowish
- Frequent changes in your spectacle number
A free eye checkup at Indumati Netralaya — or at one of our village eye camps — can confirm whether you have a cataract and whether your surgery is free under Ayushman Bharat.
Recovery after cataract surgery
Cataract surgery is a day-care procedure — you go home the same day. Most patients notice clearer vision within 24–48 hours. We provide free post-operative medicines for scheme patients and schedule follow-up checkups at Day 1, Week 1 and Month 1 to make sure your eye heals well. Our team explains every step in Hindi and English so you and your family feel completely at ease.
